The practice is a partnership and doctors take an active interest in all patients. You may consult any doctor, particularly if you need an urgent appointment for a new problem. consulting the same doctor for any followup appointments in the course of one illness will ensure continuity of care.
Practice Nurses
For some appointments it may be more appropriate to see one of our nurses rather than a doctor. At least one nurse is available at most times of the day. Nurses are available by appointment and for telephone advice. They can help you with
- Immunisations
- Travel advice
- Family planning advice
- Smoking support
- Asthma management
- Diabetic control
- Minor injuries
- Removal of stitches
- Cervical smears
- Health checks: men and women
- Ear syringing
- Dressings
- Hayfever follow up
Health Care Assistants
Two specially trained health care assistants work alongside the nurses providing care for blood tests, blood pressure monitoring, ECGs, etc.
Community Nursing Team
District nurses see patients at home who need nursing help but are too ill to attend surgery. If you are in need of a visit please telephone 01225 858686 and leave a message with the receptionist.
Health Visitors
Health visitors are particularly concerned with the health of expectant mothers, children under five, the elderly and the handicapped. They run the Children's Immunisation programme. They have an office in the practice but spend a lot of time visiting families. Please contact them on 01225 852027 for an appointment or with your health queries. There is an answerphone should the health visitors be out on their rounds.
Community Midwife
The midwife holds a weekly ante-natal clinic at the practice. Pleas phone 01225 858686 and leave a message with reception, who will advise you. You can also contact the community midwives on 01225 824669.
Administrative Team
The clinical team is supported by an administrative team. This includes receptionists, secretaries, clerical staff and a practice business and office manager. Together they may interface with patients, monitor any referrals to consultants in hospitals, administer requests, complaints and other patient needs, and help to run the partnership business.
Teaching
We are a Postgraduate Teaching Practice and generally have a qualified Doctor working with us to gain experience of General Practice. As part of this training the Registrar may have to make video recordings of consultations. This will not be done without patients' consent and will never be used during any physical examination.
Currently the Practice is affiliated with the University Of Bristol Medical Teaching Programme and helps in the training of 2nd and 4th year medical students.
